Salary: £26,000-£28,000 DOE

Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday; part-time and job share considered

We are seeking a librarian to provide excellent standards of customer services for their accounts, with a likely focus on adult stock selection.

About the role:

We are seeking a librarian to join our team. This person will provide excellent standards of customer service to any account they look after. It is likely their focus will primarily be on adult stock selection and supporting the adult stock department. We are a close, effective and hard-working team and the role holder will be expected to support the department as a whole in order to support the delivery of a first class service.

The ideal candidate will have experience of:

  • adult stock selection, including budgeting (essential)
  • experience in public librarianship and/or bookselling (essential)
  • experience in children’s stock (desirable)
  • experience of higher education librarianship (desirable)
  • knowledge of basic bibliographic and cataloguing principles (desirable)
  • assessing and evaluating new titles
  • reading and reviewing titles.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • flexible
  • highly motivated either working on their own or as part of a team
  • detail orientated
  • a good communicator
  • able to manage their time and work to tight deadlines
  • interested in their ongoing development.

Details:

  • Manager: Reporting to Alison Tarrant, Head of Library Services
  • Contract type: We are looking for someone who can work Monday to Friday, with a requirement for flexibility to fulfil the demands of the job. We would welcome applications from those looking for a part-time or job share role as well as those looking for a full-time role (for 37.5 hours per week). There will be the expectation that you read in your own time for this role.
  • Working location: This role is hybrid; it will involve regular days at our base in central Birmingham (120 Bromsgrove Street, Birmingham, B5 6RJ) and there will be regular home working each week. There is possible future travel to visit customers and conferences as the role requires.
