Chapel Street Community Primary School

January 21st 2022

Chapel Street Community Primary School in Manchester wanted to create a brand new library which was accessible for children from all year groups across the school; an inspiring space in which pupils could develop a love for reading. The school had planned to have three separate sections to accommodate pupils, with a fiction, non-fiction and reading for pleasure zone.

In need of some help, the school contacted our library design team. Peters' Library Design Manager, Jessica McCoy worked alongside Chapel Street staff to create a design for the space that fulfilled their requirements. They were keen to have a library that stored as many books as possible, so that all children had access to books to take home, yet the shelves still looked full!

Once the space was installed and shelves fitted, our Educational Relationship Manager, Oonagh Towse took over to help the school fill the space with the right books. They wanted a range of inclusive books with diverse characters and authors, to give pupils a diverse view of the world. We were able to provide a range of books to fill the new reading space and support the school throughout the whole process to ensure their needs were met. The children at Chapel Street Primary school are delighted with their new library and excited to explore their new books!

Pupils said: "The thing I like about the library is that there are different types of books and its decorated nicely."

"I really love the way it’s been created and when I see the books around me I feel excited to pick one."
