Diverse reads for secondary schools
CLPE's latest Reflecting Realities report highlighted a lack of diversity in UK publishing, and the recent Lit in Colour research from Penguin and The Runnymede Trust also found that fewer than 1% of students at GCSE study a book by a writer of colour. The Lit in Colour campaign is seeking to increase students’ access to more books by writers of colour, and many schools are now looking to diversify their reading material in school. More so than ever, it's crucial to find books that represent the diverse and varied experiences and cultures of all students.
To support schools, we've identified books that feature characters from BAME (Black and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds and cultures. Browse books with authors and characters from a wide range of backgrounds below.
