Viking Primary School library design case study

Viking Primary School in Northolt is a single form entry Primary school with 208 pupils (not including nursery). With an extremely vibrant and diverse population, they are committed to achieving their motto ‘Be the best you can be’ in everything they do. They strive to provide their children with as many opportunities as possible as the area the school is in, and many of the families, are very deprived. 

Viking approached our design team in March 2021, asking for a new shelving configuration to improve the aesthetics of their library. They wanted a welcoming library that is a place for all pupils to enjoy and develop their reading for pleasure.

Our designers worked closely with the headteacher to put together a selection of CAD designs based on their requirement. The library already had existing furniture which the school wanted to keep, and we ensured that their new library matched their existing colour theme.

The installation process which took place in July 2021 created a multifunctional room with areas for group work, comfortable seating, and a corner reading den for quiet reading.

 Amie Norris, Headteacher at Viking commented: “Peters were amazing from the very beginning – they had fantastic ideas during the design process, were incredibly quick to respond to any queries/change requests and were very quick and professional during the installation process. The library was only completed in the last week of term so it hasn’t been open to pupils yet so there is no ‘measurable’ result yet. However, all the children and staff who have seen the new library have been very excited.”
